Kdenlive 0.8.2 is released  View Printable Version
Tuesday, November 01 2011 @ 03:50 CST
Contributed by: Linegod

KDEWe are proud to announce the immediate release of Kdenlive 0.8.2. We encourage all users to upgrade.

For this release, we did put a lot of energy into bug fixing and stability (more than 140 issues solved) to bring you a better editing experience. We have solved a lot of project corruption issues, and the introduction of the automatic backup feature means you should hopefully enjoy Kdenlive better than ever!

Among the features improvements, the proxy clips (clips replacing the original ones when editing a format that is too slow to edit, for example AVCHD) should work fine now, HDMI capture should also be improved (feedback welcome) and some GUI multi threading should make operations a bit smoother.

Alternatives to KDE and GNOME on Linux systems  View Printable Version
Friday, October 28 2011 @ 08:10 CST
Contributed by: Linegod

KDEBefore anything, this article is for those using KDE and GNOME and start feeling the need for more, or something else. This is not a trolling article (we hate that), nor is a rant against the two DEs. We respect the freedom of choice, and the Open Source world is all about freedom of choice. With this article we only want to show you what other options you have, the pluses and the minuses, with no bias whatsoever. We'll go less than technical with this article, and we hope we'll widen your perspective and help you use something that's really fit for your needs.

Running KWin with OpenGL ES 2.0  View Printable Version
Tuesday, October 04 2011 @ 11:20 CST
Contributed by: Linegod

KDEI want to thank all users who tested our beta version and release candidates and ensured by that a regression free update. I am very glad on how smooth this major transition of the compositor seems to work according to the very low number of bug reports in this cycle.

On Mesa enabled desktop systems there is also the possibility to go a step further and leave GLX completely behind by compiling KWin for OpenGL ES/EGL only.

KDEThis weekend at the Desktop Summit in Berlin, plans were presented by Martin Gräßlin, the maintainer of the KWin compositing window manager, for supporting the Wayland Display Server as an alternative to KDE being limited to X11. KDEGood news for all users that don’t use Linux but still want to run Krita. In the last week lots of progress has been made towards getting Krita to run on Windows and Mac OS X. The Windows work was work was done by stuartmd who is working for KO GmbH. The screenshot below shows current git master running on Windows. The native windows look is a bit ugly, but can of course be changed to Oxygen.
