Secure Multi-User Linux Shells with Jailkit  View Printable Version
Monday, December 26 2011 @ 05:33 PM CST
Contributed by: Linegod

General NewsRecently I had a personal project I wanted to implement that involved setting up a multi-user Linux server for myself and some of my friends, where the applications we wanted to run required some form of shell access. This presented an interesting predicament: since the particular people using this system were very technically knowledgeable, how could I prevent them from hacking and gaining root access to the server from their shell?

CoreBreach On Linux Is Ready, May Go Open-Source  View Printable Version
Thursday, December 22 2011 @ 05:00 PM CST
Contributed by: Linegod

GamesMore than a month ago I was the first to write about the CoreBreach racing game coming to Linux. Well, there's some more interesting news to deliver today.

Besides being a racing game and not yet-another-first-person-shooter for Linux, what also made the CoreBreach Linux port interesting is that it's originally a Mac OS X title and for still using the Apple APIs on Linux they took advantage of GNUstep in porting this Objective-C 2.0 game to Linux. The game also has custom 3D rendering engine.

Vim: revisited  View Printable Version
Thursday, December 15 2011 @ 07:03 AM CST
Contributed by: Linegod

General NewsIíve had an off/on relationship with Vim for the past many years.

Before, I never felt like we understood each other properly. Vim is almost useless without plugins and some essential settings in .vimrc, but fiddling with all the knobs and installing all the plugins that I thought I needed was a process that in the end stretched out from few hours to weeks, months even; and it the end it just caused frustration instead of making me a happier coder.

BBX Python: Self-contained Demo App  View Printable Version
Thursday, December 08 2011 @ 09:44 AM CST
Contributed by: Linegod

General NewsEarlier today I wrote about how it turns out that the Tablet OS (2.0.0 beta or later) actually recognizes Python as a direct "entry point" for apps, as it does for apps built using AIR or the Native SDK (WebWorks apps use the AIR entry point at this time).

With the original crude launcher, we'd developed a small set of experiments and demonstration scripts, which you had to copy over the network to "documents/scripts", with the bbxrun.py file sitting above to let you select which one to run.
