A Response to the Mandrakelinux Product Quality Online Petition  View Printable Version
Saturday, October 16 2004 @ 02:59 AM CST
Contributed by: Linegod

Mandrake LinuxFrom MandrakeClub:

Mandrakesoft values user feedback above all. Although some of you may feel your voice often goes unheard, please be assured that a lot of us spend a good part of our time listening to what users have to say. We do this for two reasons: the first reason is that the community is the very soul of Mandrakelinux – this is true of all free software. The second reason is that a company cannot live if it doesn't provide what its customers need – and this is true of every company, small and large.

So, although some emails may not receive a reply, and although we cannot intervene in every forum thread, we keep an eye on what's going on in the community. By signing this petition, you have given us a clear sign of your concern regarding the quality of our products, but more importantly you have shown us that you care about the future of Mandrakelinux. We share those two concerns. It is of the utmost importance for the future of Mandrakesoft and Mandrakelinux that the quality of our products be as good as we can make it, and that we do not disappoint our users.

Mandrake Linux

MozillaQuest Magazine (mozillaquest.com) reports: Mandrake has been doing more than its fair share of making Linux suitable for converting Microsoft Windows users to Linux for some time now. Mandrake 9.x already was a Linux distribution that out of the box was very suitable for migrating from Microsoft Windows to GNU-Linux.

Looking over the information about Mandrake 10.1 and adding that to our hands-on experiences with Mandrake 9.x and 10.0, Mandrake 10.1 ought to be a product that will help to promote the migration of MS Windows users to GNU-Linux.

Perhaps the most important change might be in the X Window system from XFree86 4.3 in Mandrake 10.0 to Xorg 6.7.0 in Mandrake 10.1. The X Window system is what is used to provide graphical display for the grapical components, including keyboard and mouse functionality, of the GNU-Linux operating system such as the GNOME and KDE desktops.

Mandrake 10.1 Review  View Printable Version
Sunday, September 19 2004 @ 11:35 PM CST
Contributed by: Linegod

Mandrake LinuxFrom Spidertools:

Mandrake 10.1 Community, released in Sept. 16 is an incremental upgrade to Mandrake 10. The new features make it a worthy upgrade for home users but the bugs that remain are certainly not what a business desktop should upgrade to until later when the Official version is released.

Of course there are new versions of programs with enhanced features, a few are listed here, none that have a significant impact that is discernable to the user over Mandrake 10.

Mandrake LinuxFrom The Register:

Mandrakesoft shareholders have given the company the green light for a stock sale that will raise up to $7.3m. A vote on Monday approved the sale of up to a million shares at ?6, or $7.31, per share.

The stock is being sold as a private investment in public equity, and investors will largely be existing shareholder, the company said. The extra funds will allow it to transfer to a regulated market, Euronext Nouveau Marché, making it easier for stock to be traded and paves the way for Mandrakesoft to pursue an acquisition strategy.
