After a few years of getting by, I've finally decided to update my home system 'nefarious'. The original article received a couple of hits, so I thought I'd do another. Times have changed quite a bit in 4 years, and it was a lot simpler than the previous build. There where no major hurtles to overcome, as the majority of hardware that one would want to select is now supported by Linux, so it was more a matter of preference than a matter of necessity.
viewurpmi is a set of scripts that generates a webpage listing of all required updates for a group of Mandrakelinux boxes. It was originally created for the CanOpenER cluster of servers.
This version will just use a cronjob against 'urpmq' on each box to generate a list of RPMs that require updates.
viewurpmi requires an 'authorized ssh-key' to be setup on each host you want to monitor, so that it can run the required commands
No one is going to see this until the system is back up, but in case you where wondering, we're experiencing a little difficulty with our Internet connection. It should be back up and running sometime Monday afternoon.
The extended outage did bring some networking and DNS issues to our attention, so it's not a complete loss.
If you haven't noticed, I've decided to crank out the new site, based on Geeklog. I was going to wait until I had the majority of the content I wanted from the old site was moved into the new site, but it was interferring with posting of new stories and new content. I believe that developing it over time will give me a little perspective on what was useful content, what was outdated and what was just a plain waste of time an effort to move over :)
