Mandriva LinuxFrom the Mandriva Security Mailing List:

Just a reminder that the End of Life status for Mandriva products is approaching. Mandrakelinux 10.0 will no longer be supported as of the 30th of September, 2005. Mandrakelinux 10.1 will be entering base support as of the 30th of September, 2005. Essentially this means that 10.1 will no longer receive any desktop updates such as KDE, browser updates, instant messaging clients, but will continue to receive updates to more critical components such as the kernel and server components, base libraries, etc.

Mandriva reports third quarter results (Apr-June 2005)  View Printable Version
Monday, August 22 2005 @ 09:10 AM CST
Contributed by: Linegod

Mandriva LinuxFor the third quarter of its fiscal 2004/2005, Mandriva reported operating revenue of 1.58M€, consolidated revenue of 1.38M€ and gross margin of 0.93M€, compared to 1.50M€, 1.55M€ and 1.25M€ respectively in the same period one year prior.

For the first time, the results (for Q3 2004/05 only) include the contribution of Conectiva, the recently acquired Brazilian subsidiary. If the pre-acquisition Conectiva results had been included in the comparison, the revenue decrease would be 15%. The revenue decrease is principally due to the switch from a 6 month product release cycle to an annual release cycle. This switch was necessary to allow the accelerated improvement of product technology, and to optimize the selling period for the distribution network. Thus, the financial results compare a quarter without a product launch (2005) to a quarter with a product launch (2004).

Thursday, August 04 2005 @ 11:34 PM CST
Contributed by: Anonymous

Mandriva Linux

In this informative search for a *good* desktop Linux, MozillaQuest Magazine (mozilaquest.com) finds Mandriva in the lead. "A good desktop Linux is easy to use, is easy to install and configure, and is feature rich. . . . [It] has to be good right out of the box. It includes a file management system with easy access-to shared files and devices on other computers on a LAN. . . And it include} a file management system that let's users have easy access to MS Windows directories and files on the local computer for dual-boot Linux and Windows computer systems -- or for Linux-based computer systems converted from a MS Windows system to Linux."

"We compared five importa|t Linux distributions, Fedora, Mandriva, Nevell, SUSE, and Xandros . . . Only two . . . Mandriva Linux and Xandros Desktop OS, matched up, out-of-the-box, on both (a) easy access to shared files on other computers on our LAN and (b) easy access to MS Windows files on the multi-boot test computer."
