Mandriva announces the launch of the new version of Mandriva Linux 2010.2
based on its new product strategy, a one-year period between major releases.
Additionally, Mandriva will also release updated versions of its products on a
periodic time on a 6-month basis.
Mandriva Linux 2010.2 is the first product following this new strategy. It is
based on Mandriva Linux 2010 Spring (Mandriva Linux 2010.1) plus 5000+ updated
and renewed packages!
I hadn't noticed, but there are Mandriva 2010 Spring packages for KDE 4.5.2 available since some days now on KDE FTP. I currently don't know whom to thank but thank you !! (neoclust maybe ??) Packages for both i586 and x86_64 are available. Here are the upgrade instructions.
As you may have heard, the future of the Mandriva Linux distribution is unclear.
Most employees working on the distribution were laid off when Edge-IT was liquidated. We do not trust the plans of Mandriva SA anymore and we don't think the company (or any company) is a safe host for such a project.
Many things have happened in the past 12 years. Some were very nice: the Mandriva Linux community is quite large, motivated and experienced, the distribution remains one of the most popular and an award-winning product, easy to use and innovative. Some other events did have some really bad consequences that made people not so confident in the viability of their favourite distribution.
Now that KDE SC 4.5 is out, I went ahead and upgraded my Mandriva Linux Spring 2010 from KDE SC 4.4 to KDE SC 4.5. Though the process is pretty simple, here is a simple step by step guide to upgrade to KDE SC 4.5.

I am writing this article on a fresh install of Mandriva KDE 2010.1 – or the Spring Edition -, enjoying a modern-looking desktop, boasting amazing visual effects right out of the box, communicating with multi-network friends, watching YouTube, checking the weather forecast through a widget and so on.
Mandriva 2010.1 "Spring" edition has arrived just in time for the summer months. It's a bit tardy, but worth the wait. Despite the company's well-publicized financial woes, Mandriva has delivered a solid and user-friendly desktop release.
