Booting With Mandriva's Speedboot  View Printable Version
Wednesday, June 03 2009 @ 11:42 AM CST
Contributed by: Linegod

Mandriva LinuxBeing worked on as part of Mandriva's next Linux distribution update is a technology they are referring to as Speedboot. Speedboot will be officially introduced with Mandriva Linux 2009.1, and compared to the normal boot process, it begins initializing some processes early on while it postpones other tasks until after the graphical display manager has shown. In essence, the user is logging into their Linux desktop even before the system is fully booted. We have some timed results of Mandriva's Speedboot along with videos showing the differences.

Smolt in Mandriva  View Printable Version
Wednesday, April 15 2009 @ 01:13 PM CST
Contributed by: Linegod

Mandriva LinuxSome time ago, I introduced a package for Smolt in Mandriva Cooker. Smolt is a tool developed for Fedora which collects information about all your hardware and submits it to a central database. On the smolts.org website, people can view all hardware entries and indicate which one is working OK for them. The database is also coupled with a wiki, where extra instructions can be written to get the hardware working. Smolt is used by default already for some time in Fedora and also in OpenSUSE.

Rehire Adam Williamson  View Printable Version
Monday, December 15 2008 @ 12:23 PM CST
Contributed by: Linegod

Mandriva LinuxMandriva's CEO should rehire Adam Williamson. He has been the PR and backbone of the mandriva's community and losing him will be a great loss to us all.

We are aware of the financial situation of Mandriva S.A., but the decision of firing Mr. Williamson will only cause the loss of one of the most precious assets Mandriva has. The continuous flow of news and information, which is necessary to give popularity and visibility to the distro was mainly in Adam’s hands during the last years. He wrote news, commented reviews, helped users in trouble and explained the Mandriva choices to all the community, bridging the gap between the company and the users. Not only, he did all these things with passion and kindness, always respecting different opinions and hearing users suggestions.
